Thank you for booking your NPIP Test

Here are the next steps:

Once we receive your booking, our tester will reach out to you either by phone or email to confirm date, or request other alternatives if there is a conflict in schedule.

Prior to your appointment, the Tester will call to remind you before she heads your way.

You will need to confirm the number of birds in your flock to be tested.

The tester will need access to a table to perform testing. If you do NOT have a small table (a folding table will work) please let her know when she confirms your appointment.

You will also need to select and secure the animals to be tested and keep them apart from the others until after the test is completed in effort to prevent accidental retest of birds. Once the testing concludes, you may reintroduce any birds that tested negative back to the flock. Any bird that has a positive test will need to be held separately from the rest. The tester will not catch any of your animals for you. This is to protect your animals from accidental injury as well as to protect the tester from injury by your animals.

Please have a bucket with clean, soapy water and a scrub brush available to scrub down boots before entering your flock’s area, and before leaving the area.
The tester will arrive with sanitizing spray and foot coverings, however, the safety of your flock and the flocks we service after your appointment is of utmost importance. Providing a bucket and brush to scrub down boots is just another layer of biosecurity to protect your investment.

If no bucket is available, please have hose access available.

When the tester has arrived, she will scrub down boots, cover feet with plastic coverings, sanitize hands, sanitize the work table, and begin work.
You may be asked to hold your bird in a particular way for the tester to perform the test. Again, securing your animal will be important. If for some reason, you or someone from your farm is not able to secure animals for testing, please let us know and we will try to work together to find a solution.

Once the animal is secured, the tester will remove a few feathers from an area on the underside of the bird’s wing. This will expose a major vein in the wing that will give us the best shot to get the appropriate amount of blood needed in one try. Our intention is to perform the test as quickly and safely as possible for the bird.
The bird may squawk when the feathers are removed and when the blood is drawn. This is normal.

The area to be sampled will eb wiped with alcohol, then the blood sample will be taken.
The sample will be mixed with an antigen over a light box and a result will be determined and recorded. We will repeat these steps until all birds required to be tested have been.

At the end of the tester’s visit, a report will be made and a copy provided to you. The document will be your receipt and evidence that your certification test was completed and it will record the finding with the USDA. If any follow up testing needs to take place when a bird is found positive, you will be instructed on next steps then.

When your tester is getting ready to leave, she will clean the area used, remove all blood/sharps/hazardous materials, clean and sanitize the work table, remove gloves and shoe coverings, and wash boots upon exit. All materials and waste will be safely thrown away by tester offsite.

And that’s it. If you have any questions prior to testing date, please contact tester by filling out the request form below.
